With names like "the Chaos Bringer" and "Planet Eater" it's not hard to imagine what manner of personality Unicron has. To Unicron there is only one purpose for the multiverse: its destruction, and he is more than happy to carry that mission out. In fact, that is his mission. In a manner of speaking. Whereas Primus exists to preserve creation, Unicron exists to destroy it. And he has. Many universes have been destroyed by him, and, if nothing stops him [and really, other than the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, nothing really can], all of them will be.
Transformers Wiki's definition, which I think sums things up best: "Unicron is the eternal arch-enemy of his twin brother Primus. He is known as the Dark God, the Chaos Bringer, the Planet Eater, and he is dedicated to consuming the multiverse. His goal is to bring an end to the annoying creation boasting independence around him, and find peace by becoming the living center of a swirling, infinite torrent of nothingness at the end of all things.
To undertake this seemingly overwhelming task, Unicron is able to travel across realities at will, a meandering plague upon existence itself. Integrated into his systems are incomprehensible quantum computers which calculate probabilities forward and backwards in time, in perpetuity, giving his processors an everchanging, evolving map of the multiverse.
The only thing that he fears is Primus's essence, contained inside the Matrix of Leadership
Frequently, Unicron will make deals with lesser beings, giving them vast new powers in exchange for their servitude. These minions are sometimes stripped entirely of their free will, but others follow him willingly. No matter their intent, Unicron's plans ultimately call for their consumption as well."

[Angolmois, which to the mun serves as a kind of energon to Unicron, is "life force" only in the sense that, depleted of too much, Unicron will enter a kind of stasis lock, where he functions at the barest minimum level of consciousness. He'll be aware, but only of his immediate surroundings, and of the location of Primus. He can still reformat bodies or even grant a disembodied Transformer a new form, but it will tax his reserves and thus is not something he'd do often. [This is the case in those G1 episodes where he is shown to be alive and aware, despite being reduced to literally living in his head.]]
And because it goes here, the "Just how big is he?" question will be answered in this section.
According to Dreamwave's More Than Meets the Eye, Cybertron is equal in size to Saturn. Unicron is supposed to be in scale with Cybertron, being of equal or greater size [because what are the odds of finding two barren metal asteroids of the same size in close proximity to each other?]
Naturally anything that big would never fit in Milliways, so he has chosen to resize himself using the same ability he discovered he had that allowed him to reshape his asteroid prison down to a size about half that of the mountains located in the back of Milliways. This applies to his planet body, as his robot height is double his diameter.
That won't fit into the bar either, so he has reconstructed a replica of his pre-planet-form body [not to allow him access to the bar interior, though it can double for that purpose], and that body is about eight feet tall [the better to lord over the bar with].
